Launch, Recovery

Larger RPA commonly require air strips or runways for take off and landing, much like regular manned aviation.  There are a small number of RPA which take of and land on water.

Very small RPA, especially rotary wing aircraft, do not require any special launch/take off and recovery/landing systems.

However, many RPAS require special equipment to launch the RPA and to recover it at the end of the mission.  Launch systems can range from a simple hand launch to the use of catapults and launch rails with acceleration devices to project the RPA into the air.  Recovery systems are equally varied, including the use of static lines or nets to catch the RPA.
